Long, long ago, in a galaxy far, far away . .

Well, twenty years ago in a psychiatric hospital on the outskirts of Bristol, Stepping Out Theatre was born . .

It is a theatre company with a difference, offering opportunities to mental health service users, mental health workers, volunteers and allies to come together and create live theatre. Twenty years on, we are still going strong. Our first production was called The Voyages of the Starship Lunar Sea and sixty five productions later, the Starship Lunar Sea is still voyaging.

To celebrate the first twenty years, our contribution to the MielenTilat Festival, named in honour of that first production in 1997 will be a programme of shorter pieces from many different performers offering windows into their different mental health experiences and evoking the many journeys we all go on with our mental health . .
